I have a Honda nh125 Lead, they seem to be very rare. I brought mine on trade me for $800, and have only seen one other on that site, and that was wrecked. Are there any others out there?, any for sale as parts in the lower south island?. I thought since mine seems to be quite rare I might keep it just to have something different. It is in good condition, but rough.
Also just brought a new SJ50QT for the handbrake to ride to work and save gas. I took the restrictor out, and it is giving 100 k's to the tank, nothing like the figures claimed by others. Anyone shed any light on why??? :?:

1983 Suzuki FS50 - Major Project! Anyone have any advice??

Post by scienci »

...apart from "get rid of it girl!"

Hi there,

I have just bought a fairly clapped-out FS50 for a project do-up. It has had a very hard life from the looks of it and needs virtually every bit of body-work replaced or repaired.

Anyone out owned or worked on one of these before? I would love to get into it and am suffering that post-purchase depression, where I am wondering if I have bitten off more than I can chew! :?

cheers

Honda Lead - there is one on Trademe now

Post by scienci »

which might suit for parts etc. Thus far the bidding has only reached $7!! and is due to close on Wed 5th Oct. Don't worry - I am not the seller, nor do I know the seller. Am just another person who has bought a scooter off Trademe and am now looking about for parts to fix the thing up.

If you know of any Suzuki FS50 bits to be had - let me know! :D

Best of luck with your project

cheers

I have an FS50 parts book which is handy to identify parts with, printed 1974. looks like it shares a lot of parts with the V50 stepthrough.and the FS1E (Fizzy) ss50.which was a 5 speed rocket. :)
It's not the born & died dates that are important on your headstone, it is the size of the DASH in between that means the most. GO HARD.

I am riding a Suzuki SJ50 aswell.

Its great! Goes really well de-restricted and keeps up with traffic no sweat.

Yep and it does get about 100k off a single tank of gas!

Not bad for $1000

I got a scooter to save gas (my skyline is a hungry hipppo) and for $320 I got a honda 1980 somthing Honda FC50 scooter, its pretty strange looking and I have only ever seen one other. Its water cooled, has factory rev counter as well as all the normal stuff, factory expansion chamber and it has a thing called "v-tacs" which is like a foot operated "v-tec" system but for a 2 stroke. According to Honda it makes 7.2hp/5.4kw. So far I have done abour 2000km and its getting slower so I think the piston/rings are getting worn, I hope I can get some more or I will have to sell it :(

Suzuki CX-50 very late 80s, rebored/oversize piston, light porting, tuned pipe, carb.

Previously CS-50 early 80s, rebored/oversized, heavily ported, carb.

yeah I got a performance air filter for mine (Dio) from Scootling. it was a preoiled element that went straight into the factory box..

There was a big range, including some for suzukis.

I put that filter then added some holes to the airbox and put in a bigger main jet to compensate for extra air. Also had fitted ZX exhaust a while ago. With the filter/airbox mod it pulls wheelies away from the lights now.. nice! :P

I'm new to scooting. Just got a Honda Giorno from Scootling. I've been told its a Honda Dio with a different body. Silver & white. Lovin' it. Great fun to ride (despite all the rain lately!). My commuting costs have dropped from $8 a day to $5.50 a week.
Looking forward to working on it to get a bit of extra power. Any advice on what to do as a 1st project would be appreciated.

I ride a Gilly dna.

Its had a lot of cosmetic work, have been working on performance the last month or so - total spending is around the $4k mark since October...

0-100 time has got better and better (around 8 secs if i get a good take off) just trying to get the setup fine tuned, does 140 @ 11k rpm, and still yet to change the cam and valves

Not wanting to mislead you :) its basically a Tact with a different body, but a lot of stuff, including the engine is the same as the Dio.
scootling is all good
