stolen scooters.... WHY?

Postby johngalt » Sun Jan 10, 2010 11:35 am

:( What are your thoughts on why they are stolen? For parts, or re registered, or paddock racers?
If they are stripped for parts are they being sold on TM or stolen to order?

No idea, I don't know where they would end up, not a lot of parts being sold on TM and not a lot of racing going on, must be being shipped to the island for transport.

How many people have actually recovered their stolen scoot??

Maybe cheap transport home, but from previous posts they are loaded onto trailers or back of vans so beg the question were do they turn up :(

I don't understand why they get stolen, perhaps a late night method home from town? They're so small that when the thief has finished with them It wouldn't be too hard in a spot that no one would every look for it.

Little bastards!

Aliens from distant planets are stealing scoots, and swapping them for these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 470226.htm.
You cant blame them really...
or for swapping these....http://www.thedesignblog.org/images/moonbeam.jpg.

i've had my second scooter stolen this year.
the first was actually recovered (though not in good condition).
it was taken from northland, wellington city and turned up in wainuiomata - a cop spotted a teenage boy driving it. it had had all identifiable features removed/scratched off. our thoughts are that it was going to be stripped for parts as they were part way through removing all the bolts etc. the only way it was identified as mine was the silage tape i had wrapped around a broken bit where a kid on a joy ride had crashed into it. no charges were laid as the kid riding it was only 14 and reckoned he'd found it abandoned - who knows if he was telling the truth.
although another 14 year old was caught, charged and fined for attempting to steal the same scooter from outside te papa. he said he needed a way to get home.
no luck recovering the most recent theft though.
so sometimes they are recovered, but more often than not, they aren't.
