These rental scooters can be parked for free, and will give 25-30km/L fuel economy even in city traffic riding (where a car would give around 5km/L). When you hire a scooter insurance is optional, and helmets are supplied with the scooter.

(3) Honda Giorno Retro scooter, 50cc auto, stylish number. $40/day; $149/week; $359/month	(4) Yamaha Majesty Big scooter giving a settled, comfortable ride, OK for motorway use. You need a motorcycle license to ride this 250cc scooter. $67/day; $255/week. Special: 4 hour hire for license test: $60 helmet, GST and insurance included.

Insurance is additional and costs $7/day, $21/week or $40/month. If you are taking your motorcycle license test, hire the 250cc Yamaha scooter to use for the test. It is classed as a motorbike. Rent for 4 hours for $60 including GST, insurance and helmet if you need it. Very easy to ride, light body and automatic gearing.

To hire a scooter, you need your current, valid driver's license with an International Driving Permit if your license is not written in English. You will need to pay a bond, and sign the hire contract. Insurance is optional if you have your own suitable cover. All hirers must be 25 years or older, or 21 years old with their own insurance or a NZ$3000 bond.
