|
|
I have had my 1996 Vespa 50S (old style smallframe Italy -> Japan -> NZ) for a year. I had an exhaust port upgrade kit fitted when I bought it, so I can cruise at 50 - 60 kmh ... except for hills. I often have to drop to 3rd gear and 40 kmh. Which can lead to traffic build up and cars trying to squeeze past.
So I am thinking of getting a big bore kit. Has anybody else with a 50S fitted one? Any comments?
(and yes, I know that this theoretically turns my scoot from a moped into a motorbike). |

Scootling have/had a 85cc kit for the 50s, and Andreas has a 102cc installed on his Vespa.
You should be able to get 70 odd Kms with a cylinder upgrade. |

Update - I ended up getting a kit from Scooter E Motion who had one in stock (yes, I did also check at Scootling).
Very pleased with the improvement. Before I would drop to 40ish going up moderate hills (I often commute along Mt Eden Rd and Symonds St), now I can sit at 50 - 55 so no problems holding up traffic. Exhaust sounds better! There is more vibration back through the throttle grip when in top 1/4 of the rev range (arm was a little uncomfortable after a recent ride from city to Pukekohe and return), but I made the change for commuting safety, not for top speed, so rarely go past 55. |
